The New York Post reports that Knicks forward Amare Stoudemire received tragic news Monday when his brother was killed in a car accident early Monday morning in Florida. The Florida Highway Patrol said that Hazell Stoudemire was driving a Cadillac Escalade north on U.S. 27 in Lake Wales, Fla., at a high rate of speed and collided with the rear of a tractor trailer at around 1:45 a.m. ET, according to multiple media reports. The police said that the 35-year-old was not wearing a seatbelt and was declared dead at the scene. The team said that Stoudemire is traveling to Florida to be with his family and will not be with the team for Monday night's game against the Jazz in New York.

The Los Angeles Times reports Sunday that newly-acquired Clippers PF Kenyon Martin joined his new teammates for practice on Sunday. That said, he did not partake in the practice session two days after signing his contract. Martin said he wants to be in uniform playing before the Clippers end a six-game, 10-day road trip that ends when the team returns home for a game next Wednesday against Washington.

Portland C Greg Oden is scheduled to have surgery on his right knee on Friday, but will also undergo surgery to his left knee on Feb. 13, reports the Oregonian on Sunday. Oden's surgeries will now add up to five since joining the team back in 2007. Both surgeries will be similar to each other in that doctors will be clearing up debris from the knee. Oden is out indefinitely for the Blazers.

Jordan played 33 minutes on Saturday at Washington, however, and scored 18 points on 9 of 11 from the field. Miami guard Dwyane Wade told the Palm Beach Post that he wants to score more baskets in the mid-range game. Wade wants to limit the acrobatic shots near the rim. "Other years, I always had the ball where I could see everybody at the top of the key and I am able to decide what shot I am going to shoot," said Wade. "And now I was kind of put in a different position." Wade scored 26 points in Friday's win at Philadelphia.

While Magic coach Stan Van Gundy continued to support the idea that G Jameer Nelson is on track to return to the floor on Monday against the Clippers. However Van Gundy told the Orlando Sentinel that he did not expect Nelson to be able to get back to play full-time right away after seeing him in practice on Friday. Van Gundy said Nelson got winded very quickly during the practice. "The thing with a concussion is you can't do anything, so it's not like you're doing something to stay in shape," Van Gundy said. The Jazz won the game 96-87 despite just six overall points from their starting backcourt, as fellow guard Devin Harris also returned from an injury to put up one point.

Riding adrenaline (and some pre-game treatment on his sprained ankle,) Jazz G Earl Watson took a close game and broke it open for Utah on Friday against the Lakers. Watson, who was not even expected to play in the game with the ankle injury sustained on Wednesday, scored eight points and had six assists in the fourth quarter as the Jazz beat the Lakers for the first time in three tries this season, 96-87. Watson finished the game with just the eight points but 11 assists overall in 26 minutes off the bench, as the Jazz took what was a tied game at the end of the third quarter and broke it open. "Man, Earl isn't even supposed to be playing right now, that's the crazy thing about it. He's out there on one leg, having an amazing game for us," Jazz F Paul Millsap said.
